2nd Officer: Passage Planning (Berth-to-Berth), ECDIS Operation, Nautical Publications and Ship’s Medicine Chest

The Second Officer serves as the primary navigating officer on board, bearing direct responsibility for comprehensive Berth-to-Berth passage planning, the correction and updating of nautical charts and publications, and the administration of the vessel’s hospital and medical stores. This dedicated section brings together practical guides, regulatory workflows, and operational checklists designed to streamline the daily responsibilities of the 2nd Mate.

Resources in this library cover all essential facets of the navigating officer’s portfolio: structured voyage planning across the four phases of IMO Resolution A.893(21) and the Bridge Procedures Guide; calculation of dynamic Under Keel Clearance (UKC), Safety Depth, and Safety Contours in ECDIS; management of Admiralty Notices to Mariners (NtM), T&P notices, and ENC licensing; maintenance of the ship’s medicine chest in compliance with WHO International Medical Guide and MFAG requirements; and thorough preparation of bridge equipment for PSC, RightShip, and SIRE 2.0 inspections.
